Armin Vit was one of the judge of Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA) from the work of higher education students from all over the world.

The ADAA is divided into twelve categories that fall under three main groups (Interactive Media, Video and Motion, and Traditional Media), with four judges for each group to collectively go over the 2,738 entries received this year. I was assigned to the Traditional Media submissions, which encompassed Photography, Illustration, Packaging and Print Communications.

Another fantastic motion graphic using typography. This one is from Tamarra Connolly.

This was done for a motion graphics class in the SVA MFA Design program. The assignment was to create a music video using just type and typographic elements in black and white. The song choice was up to us. The professor was Gail Anderson.

The ever insightful posts at Johnson Banks. The topic discussed is seeing some hidden, obscured or the unexplained in the design aspect.

It struck me as an extraordinary thing to do, to create, then to hide. Obviously in the design business we’re generally trained to communicate, and quickly. It’s virtually impossible for me to think of anything I’ve designed in the last 15 years that wasn’t intended to explain itself in some way, as fast as possible.

That doesn’t mean to say that design is free from the obscure, or the unexplained.

We usually think of business cards as a means to share your contact information. We might design a business cards in a way that is eye catching to better stand out to clients. Here is an alternative though that might make us rethink how we design our business cards for our own or clients.

The better idea is to add worthwhile information to your card. Information that is worthwhile whether or not your prospect buys your products or services immediately. After all, the goal is to keep your name in front of your audience for the long haul.

"We wanted this redesigned bill to scream, 'I am a five. I am a five,"' Larry Felix, director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing said in an interview with The Associated Press.

So that is why the 5 at the lower right of the bill is purple. What with all the screaming. (Corny potah hehehe)

Perhaps the most striking change is a new large-size 5 printed in the lower right-hand corner of the backside of the bill in high-contrast purple ink. That feature was added to help the visually impaired.

While it is a valid reason, I think it could have been handled with more elegance.

John Nack's post on the new Photoshop logo has been peppered with comments, mostly negative ones. My first reaction was, "ooh shiny." I think I have seen an Adobe Photoshop action from the Adobe Exchange that can do the exact same thing right down to the blue shading. Maybe that's where they got the idea? Someone in the comment section said that it may take some getting used to. Watya tink?

An Interview with S. Neil Fujita

Born in 1921 in Waimea, Hawaii, Fujita remains active, though no longer as an art director in the record or publishing industries, nor as a communication design instructor at Parsons, where he taught in the early 1960s and ’70s. He is currently writing and illustrating the book Botanical Mischief, an ongoing personal project. And in April 2008, Ruder Finn Press will publish his autobiography, Mouth of Reddish Water: A Japanese American Story. Recently, this visually eloquent designer agreed to speak about his past and present, and the state of design as he views it.

If you don't know S. Neil Fujita, then you should know that he made the logo for the Godfather. "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."

Originally intended as a 'Consequences'-style stationery set, with each of the pieces contributing to a whole face, we discovered that, whatever order we put the images in, the result was distinctly HRH.

I once did something similar to this but way, way, way uglier. This is just spot on.

Filipino style chicken adobo

Preparing Filipino style chicken adobe is fun and easy!

First, you will need the following ingredients:

soy sauce
vinegar
cooking oil
pepper (whole)
garlic (pound them first)
salt
a little bit of sugar
some laurel leaves if you want.
and of course the chicken

You have to catch them first though.
That is the fun part (lol x 34)

After you boiled the chicken, just mix in the other ingredients and there you have it an authentic filipino style chicken adobo.

Oh and save the chicken innards. That will make great tasting isaw. But that's for another recipe.
